Kavita Shah
I joined WFW in 2001 as a trainee and completed my first seat in the shipping finance department. I knew that this was where I wanted to qualify, and this decision was reconfirmed during my trainee secondment in Singapore. My colleagues all seemed to have a lot of industry knowledge, drive, energy and ambition and the work was the right balance of interesting and challenging with many deals making the headlines.
At WFW, there have always been fantastic opportunities to work abroad. As well as my secondment in the Singapore office I spent time as an Associate in Athens and Paris. I was also fortunate enough to do a client secondment with Lloyds TSB Bank (as it was then known) in the shipping team within the Structured Asset Finance department. This was a great way to see a commercial shipping team in action and the internal machinations of an institutional lender.
In 2013 I was made partner and have, with the support of my team and colleagues around the world, managed to build a great, diverse and interesting practice. I am now the firm’s training principal and have really enjoyed the interaction with the future leaders and lawyers of the firm – making sure they have the best foundations from which to build and shape their careers.
