Having previously done a virtual secondment with the Singapore office due to the pandemic, I was delighted to be able to make it out to our Dubai office for my final seat.
I sat in the Dispute Resolution team, where I developed an understanding of the UAE court systems, including undertaking research on the jurisdiction of the UAE’s federal and local divisions. One advantage of being the sole trainee in a smaller office was being able to assist all fee earners across various departments and I found myself working on matters including the leasing of aircraft, ship financings, as well as assisting our corporate clients with various UAE-specific company matters.
The secondment was my first time travelling to the Middle East and Dubai was a great gateway to visiting the various other Emirates. As a city itself, Dubai is a vibrant, exciting and expat-friendly place to live and work in. The opportunity to explore the local culture and cuisine, as well as to see first-hand how WFW offices are interconnected on a global level, has been a fantastic experience.
I was very sad to leave, but have no doubts that I will be back soon to visit!
